Weight Lifting Routine

by Patrick Austin

In my experience, the best weight lifting routine is one that you develop specifically for your own body. You shouldn’t try to “do what everyone else is doing” because every person is different in how they gain muscle. In this article, I am going to provide you with some general guidelines that will help you develop the best weight lifting routine for yourself.

Three important keys to developing the best routine are persistence, rest, and a positive mindset. Let’s take a look at each key:

Best Weight Lifting Routine Key #1- Persistence

If you want your muscles to grow, you have to stick with a routine. You can’t say you’re going to lift weights for two weeks and then quit. The muscles in the human body don’t work like that. Once you stop using them, they will begin to weaken and you will lose all definition.

So once you begin your routine, be sure to stay persistent. A great way to maintain your routine is to make it fun and change things up every once in a while. Exercising and weight training shouldn’t be something you dread. It should be something you look forward to.

Best Weight Lifting Routine Key #2- Rest

Many people believe you build muscle while you’re working out. In actuality, your muscles grow when you're resting and not working out. This is a critical key to remember. If you overexert yourself and work out too much, your muscles will never have the time to recuperate and you won't get results from your weight lifting routine.

When you are planning your routine, be sure to schedule your weight training for every other day, rather than every day. Having a day off in between lifting will give your muscles enough time to grow.

Best Weight Lifting Routine Key #3- Positive Mindset

This could be the biggest reason most people don’t stick with even the best weight lifting routine. If they don’t see results in a short period of time, they begin to think that they’re working out for nothing and lose mental focus. A positive mindset is crucial while working out and especially if you’re lifting weights. Remember, increasing muscle definition and size is one of the hardest things to do. It’s even hard than losing weight. You need to stay positive mentally in order to achieve results physically.

The Best Weight Lifting Routine Equipment

When it comes to equipment, simpler is better. You don’t need to go out and by a five hundred dollar piece of machinery to have the best weight lifting routine. All you really need is a bench, some free weights, and a couple of dumbbells (all of these items combined shouldn’t cost you more than a hundred dollars).

Another avenue would be a gym membership, but those can be rather expensive. If you want a good place to workout, find your local YMCA. They usually have the same exercise equipment as most top-notch gyms, but the price is much less.
