Play station repair: To fix or not to fix
Play station repair is tricky, because if you want Sony to come through on their warranty, you cannot open your game console for any reason. The minute you open the console up and fish around for an obvious problem, Sony will not provide you with any sort of play station repair. So, if you cannot fix the problem on your own at that point, you are the proud owner of a useless piece of gaming equipment!
Play station repair time?
If you just recently started having problems with your play station, repair may not even be necessary. There are some simple problems that do not require any repair services.
·If you are getting a disk read error chances are that your disk is dirty, or the play station lens is dirty. Carefully wipe any smudges off of the disk, and check your play station for any build up of dust or other harmful materials. If you run a lens cleaner through your play station, repair may not be needed! If this does not work, call Sony.
· If your controller is not working, check the connections, or even try switching a controller. Often times, you will have tripped over the controller and a full connection is just not there to help it function properly. If this does not work, call Sony for play station repair.
· If you are having problems with the image on the screen, your disk or lens may be dirty. Clean the disk and lens. Also, check your video connection on the back of your television. If the video input is not fully connected, you will get a messy picture. If this does not work, call Sony.
· Are you experiencing strange sounds while playing your play station? Fuzzy or static sounds could be from a bad audio connection. Check the audio input in the back of your television. If it’s properly connected, call Sony for play station repair.
· Does your play station freeze up or turn off during play? This could be from a dirty disk, but if you have found that the disk and lens are both clean, it may be an over heating problem. For all overheating problems, call Sony.
If you want to keep your warranty, do not attempt any play station repair!
When you are having an intermittent problem with your play station it’s understandable that you’d want to just pop it open and see if you can spot what is going on! But, unless you are sure you can fix it, or are willing to invest in a new play station, repair isn’t a good idea!
If you decide you want to attempt play station repair, use caution!
Remember to use common sense when dealing with an electrical unit, and proceed with extreme caution.
While it is really not a good idea to attempt repair on your own, if you try and you feel you need some guidance there are several websites out there that specialize in the repair of gaming units. www.ultimateconsoleguides.com seems to be a good one that has a list of problems; possible causes, and tips to get your play station up and running again.
Hopefully your play station repair turns out not to be a repair at all, and you can continue gaming without the frustration of electrical problems! Enjoy your play station, and be mindful of that Sony warranty!
