Wisconsin Getaway

For those who have never experienced Wisconsin and all it has to offer, a Wisconsin getaway can be well worth your next vacation or weekend getaway.

A Wisconsin getaway can be one of many things. It can be an outdoor adventure, or something more laid - back and cozy. Whatever your tastes, Wisconsin has plenty to offer.

Just the scenery alone in the Badger state is enough to lure one’s attention. From the Apostle Islands and the Lake Superior shoreline in the north; the Door County Peninsula and Lake Michigan to the east; the Mississippi river and the hills and valleys of the west; and the Kettle Moraine basin in the south. It’s a very beautiful state.

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, a Wisconsin getaway offers a TON of things to do. In the summer you can enjoy one of Wisconsin’s thousands of lakes. You can swim, kayak, ski, tube, and fish just for starters. The Great Lakes of Michigan, and the largest body of freshwater in the world, Lake Superior, are also here to enjoy. Whether its pleasure boating along the shoreline to Chicago, or trolling for big Salmon, Rainbow trout, or lake trout, the Great Lakes are, well, GREAT!

Many a traveler or local goes on a Wisconsin getaway to enjoy some of Wisconsin’s other fun things to do too. Wisconsin is home to a lot of cheeses and wineries. Door County has some very popular wines that are available for tasting. All throughout the state there are large and small cheese makers. Many have shops where you can go in and taste their products before you buy them.

Another favorite Wisconsin getaway activity is antiquing. There are a lot of small little mom and pop antique stores throughout the state. One of the hotspots for antiques and crafts is Door County. An afternoon of activity could be spending the morning out on the lake fishing or kayaking, followed by a picnic lunch at one of beautiful state parks in the Door County (there’s at least 3 of them), an afternoon shopping an meandering through the antique shops and craft stores, followed by a great dinner in one of the many restaurants in the area, and lastly you can stay in for the night at one of the many cozy Wisconsin Bed Breakfast that the area has to choose from. Or you could camp out under the stars at one of the state park campgrounds. Whew!

There’s no lacking in wintertime Wisconsin getaways either. In the winter, you can snowshoe, downhill ski, cross country ski, snowmobile, and go ice fishing. For the young at heart, there are some great downhill ski areas in northern Wisconsin to take advantage of. Many parks offer cross country skiing and have lots of trails to ski on. If you’re into snowmobiling, Wisconsin is the place. Thousands of miles of snowmobile trails are in Wisconsin. You can travel hundreds of miles from southern Wisconsin to northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula and literally never get off of your snowmobile! The scenery with all the snow in the trees is breathtaking. There’s nothing quite liking taking a ride on a snowmobile through a snow covered woods. It’s a picture post-card view for miles.

If you’re looking to get away from it all this weekend, or any weekend for that matter, a Wisconsin getaway will surely have something to offer anytime of the year.
