Herbs to Increase Semen Production
By Brian Benjamin Carter, MSci, LAc

Hey,

Is there any herb I can take to increase seamen production? If so what and how much?

Thanks
Erik

Erik,

I must point out the funny part of your question, which is that the word you meant is spelled 'semen.' Your spelling makes me wonder if you're looking for an herb that will stimulate the navy's enlistment rate! ;-)

But seriously folks… Yes, there are herbs that increase semen production. They are:

  • Cornu Parvum Cervi (Lu Rong)
  • Herba Epimedii (Yin Yang Huo)
  • Placenta Hominis (Zi He Che)
  • Radix Dipsaci (Xu Duan).

These are Chinese herbs- I believe you can find yin yang huo (aka Horny Goat Weed), but the others may be harder to find.

A warning: Chinese herbs, taken in the dosages that are effective, can be harmful if they're not for someone like you. Make sure that the ones you take fit your constitution and patterns of imbalance. The best way to do that is to see a Chinese medicine practitioner (acupuncturist/herbalist).

One on one, they can diagnose your patterns, and then prescribe the appropriate herbal formulas. We use time-tested classical formulas rather than single herbs because certain combinations of herbs have a more complicated and powerful effect, are less likely to produce side effects, and less likely to interact with western pharmaceuticals.

Also beware: not all herb combos are wise. Many modern supplement companies put combine herbs into one pill that have never been tested together. Conversely, Chinese herbal formulas are from several hundred to several millennia old, and have been used by millions of patients, and prescribed by who knows how many thousands of doctors.
