Oahu Travel: A Dream Come True
Many of us dream of our perfect Oahu travel vacation – basking in the warm sun on the glorious white sand beaches, getting an adrenaline rush from the big surf, excitement and action in Honolulu, or relaxation and fun in Waikiki.
Planning (which I talk about in my Hawaiian Airline Article ) your Oahu travel is half the fun, from getting the best price on airline tickets and Oahu vacation packages to checking out special Oahu events and Oahu visitor’s guides. If all goes smoothly, by the time your Oahu travel agent or travel service confirms your flight and wraps up the final details, you’ll be so elated your head will be spinning with the wonderful Hawaiian vacation that awaits you in Oahu.
While it’s only natural to be excited about your Oahu travel plans and vacation, many of us become either too excited or too wrapped up in the details of our trips to remember the importance of common sense safety when traveling. Here are a few things to remember that’ll ensure a great, safe time in Oahu. Travel can be much better when we remember to use common sense safety.
List, Lock, and Leave Behind
When preparing for your Oahu travel, make a list of important information and numbers – for example, your travel agent or travel service, personal contacts in case of emergency, flight numbers and times, and any other important information you might need. It doesn’t hurt to make a duplicate list if you’re traveling with others; so more than one person has the list in a family in case the original gets lost.
Although Oahu travel is considered quite safe, to be on the safe side, always remember to lock you Oahu condo or hotel. If you are getting a rental car, remember to lock the car upon exiting as well.
Your Oahu travel will be more relaxed if you leave valuables behind. Most valuables are unnecessary during your vacation, and if you leave them at home, you’ll be able to enjoy yourself more than if you’re concerned with having them lost or stolen during your Oahu stay.
Oahu Travel and the 4 S’s: Signs, Sunscreen, Stings, and Surf
Read signs carefully wherever your Oahu travel takes you – from hiking on the trails to basking on the beaches. Don’t fall into the tourist trap of being so in awe of the beautiful Oahu landscape that you ignore obvious information. Being aware of local endangered plant species, guidelines, and warnings in various places will make for a better Oahu vacation experience.
Many sites in your Oahu travel will be outdoors, so make sure to bring (and use) an ample supply of sunscreen. It won’t hurt to have other protection from the sun as well, like sunglasses, hats or caps, and light layers of clothing as you enjoy Oahu tourist sites, scenery, beaches, hiking, and other Oahu outdoor adventures.
Don’t take the bite out of your Oahu travel by being unaware of potential beach dangers like stings from Portuguese man-o-wars or box jellyfish, high and strong waves, and sharks. Visit beaches with lifeguards present and check conditions on dangers. Oahu may have the best surf in the world, but it won’t be the best for you if you aren’t aware of just how strong or safe it is that day.
While shark bites are very rare, your mental list of Oahu travel safety should include common sense shark safety, such as avoiding beach swimming if you have an open or bleeding wound, avoiding murky or dark areas, and following the lifeguard’s or posted sign’s recommendations.
Remembering some common sense safety just might mean the difference between an Oahu dream come true and an Oahu disaster. Now you can relax and have fun as you book your Oahu travel destination!
