You will never run out of things to do while enjoying your Anchorage Alaska real estate. Stupendous wildlife viewing all year round, a top trail town with hundreds of miles of hiking trails, state and national parks, and loads of mountains to ski, climb, snowmobile. A plethora of activities awaits you in Anchorage.
Anchorage Alaska real estate can be pretty reasonably priced. A house built in 1998 with a square footage of 1725 square feet had an asking price of $102,000. Although it has only one finished bedroom, there was opportunity to add bedrooms in the lower level and was situated on 3.18 acres. This is a reasonable price for the size of house and parcel. This is just one example, but there are many other fine properties that are available for Anchorage Alaska real estate.
If you’re looking into getting some Anchorage Alaska real estate, it may be a good idea to get some idea of its history. In 1867, the United Sates purchased this part of Alaska from Russia for the sum of $7,200,000. In 1915, Woodrow Wilson authorized funds for the Alaskan Railroad. The population soon swelled from would-be entrepreneurs who flocked to the bustling frontier town. A popular hardware and clothing store, “The Anchorage” led to the town name, and despite protests, the post office formalized the use of the name.
Anchorage Alaska was incorporated in 1920, and Alaska attained statehood in 1959. In 1964 a devastating earthquake struck Anchorage and measured 9.2 on the Richter scale, the largest ever in North America. Anchorage Alaska real estate was not in good shape at that time and since Anchorage was only 80 miles from the epicenter, the damage was severe.
Anchorage Alaska real estate picked up in the eighties, due to the flood of North Slope oil revenue, Anchorage started an aggressive beatification program, and far sighted community planning which greatly increased quality of life. In the early nineties, Anchorage boasted 259 miles of maintained trails, a hilltop ski area, and the Alyeska Ski Resort and Alpenglow Ski Area. Tourism is now a mainstay of Anchorage’s economy.
Wildlife viewing is an all year affair if you own Anchorage Alaska real estate. Bears, Moose, Caribou, and blue whales are just for starters. Denali State Park in the Denali National Park and Preserve and along the Denali highway is a good place to spot Caribou.
The land surrounding Denali National park is home to North America’s highest peak, Mt. McKinley. Denali is the Athabaskan Indian name for the mountain meaning “The High One”. The Denali National Preserve encompasses six million acres with great wildlife viewing and panoramic views. In this area, there is plenty to do; hiking, rafting, mountain biking, or go flighseeing over the preserve.
There will never be a lack of things to do when you are enjoying your Anchorage Alaska real estate. It’s a very cool place to live with lots and lots to do, and where it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to live.
