Candida and Chinese Medicine
By Brian Benjamin Carter, MSci, LAc

Hello. I stumbled upon your website while searching for a holistic practitioner.

I was told I needed to find a specific kind of specialist. I think it's called "aeriologist" "eariologist" or "airiologist." I live in NYC and I think this is similar to a Chinese herbalist. This was one of the practitioners I was told to find.

Please help me if you can. It's been confirmed that I'm really suffering with a yeast overgrowth in my system.

Can you also recommend some websites/physicians that address issues of candida or yeast overgrowth in the system.

Thanks,
Barbara

Hmm, perhaps it was "iridologist." Iridology is a way of diagnosing the body based on the eye- not part of Chinese medicine (and I don't know any practitioners) but similar, because in CM we can diagnose based on a number of systems, observing different parts of the body, etc. The advantages of Chinese medicine are the effective and personalized treatments (acupuncture and herbal medicine) we do and constitutional balancing (personalized diet, lifestyle, and exercise) we can suggest after diagnosing you.

In NYC, I'd suggest seeing Juliette Aiyana, a great friend of mine, and a contributor to our website. See her column and info here.

With Candida, you not only need to look at diet, but may even need western drugs if it's very serious. After killing off the excess yeast, you should restore balance and get into a personalized pattern-balancing lifestyle, diet, and exercise plan- Juliette can help you with that after diagnosing your patterns.

I've dealt briefly (not comprehensively, unfortunately) with candida in a few articles:

Hope that helps, and let me know how your treatment goes!
B
