Best Book Seller

by Patrick Austin

What makes a good book store? What are the characteristics of the best book seller? In my experience, it should be a place that offers a wide variety of subject matter in an easy-to-find manner. The prices shouldn’t be exorbitant and the atmosphere needs to be calm and relaxing. If you go into a bookstore that’s filled with hustle and bustle, you should try another store. Why? Well, when you’re picking a book, you should have the ability to read some of the material and focus on what it is about. You can’t really do this in a loud setting.

In my humble opinion, these are the best book sellers…

#1 Best Book Seller—Your Public Library

Technically the library doesn’t sell books. But that should be a positive—the books are free! All you have to do is sign up for a library card (again, at no cost). In my experience, a public library offers a great selection of books on virtually every subject; and you can’t beat the atmosphere. When you walk in, it’s very quiet and business like. I believe people who go to the library have a true love for books and won’t intrude upon someone who is trying to figure out which book is right for them. The only drawback of going to the library is that their selection can get a little outdated. Don’t expect to get the hottest best seller at your library (at least until some time has passed from its release).

#2 Best Book Seller—Amazon/Borders
(http://www.amazon.com/books & http://www.borders.com/)

These two giants have come together to form a book goliath. You can’t beat their selection and convenience. If you don’t want to go to a Borders to pick up your novel, you can order it on Amazon. This was a very smart partnership. They also offer CDs, DVDs, textbooks, and toys for children. If you’ve been to a Borders, you have to be impressed by their computerized book-finder. All you need to provide is the name of the author, or the name of the book and it will provide you with information on how to find it. It can get rather crowded at Borders, so the atmosphere isn’t that great, so that’s where Amazon comes in. You can find the same book on the web and have it sent directly to you. If you want to find a book for cheap, Amazon has an auction section that allows you to find books at bargain basement prices. Convenience is the real key with this best book seller.

#3 Best Book Seller—Barnes and Noble
(http://www.barnesandnoble.com)

This is another major book chain. They offer a great variety of books, and like Borders/Amazon, they sell CDs, DVD’s, and textbooks. The Barnes and Noble stores offer a good atmosphere. It’s not as quiet as a library, but it’s better than a Borders store. They also have a web site where you can purchase items online, but they don’t have an auction section (at least not yet).

If none of those cuts it, continue your best book seller search here…
