Open Your Mind to Our Daily Bread Devotional

If you are a church goer, you have probably seen the “Our Daily Bread” devotional sitting on an information counter of your church. The Our Daily Bread devotional is published every month, and contains small, yet powerful, insights into the mind, heart, and passions of God.

The Our Daily Bread devotional is meant to be used every day; and each book has a theme. While the books are dated for a specific month, it does not mean that you have to use it only on the days indicated. Like any devotional, this book is meant to be used as a tool to draw you closer to your Creator, not as your only way of communication with Christ. If using this devotional opens up your eyes and your heart and makes you more receptive to the call of Christ in your life, then you are using it correctly.

Many of the entries in the Our Daily Bread devotional are excerpted from other devotional works, as well as being thoughts and meditations by ministers, clergy, and laypersons from around the country and around the world.

The Our Daily Bread devotional is great because it is inexpensive (or free, depending on your church) and is a great tool to use in a small group setting. In addition to the book that your small group is studying, consider challenging everyone to read Our Daily Bread devotionals for a month. At the beginning of each meeting, ask what the devotions for the week meant to each person. You will be surprised how often these ‘simple’ devotions stir deep feelings and intimate encounters with Christ.

Our Daily Bread devotionals offer something for everyone, no matter where you are on your walk with Christ. If you are just entering into a relationship with Christ, then the Our Daily Bread devotional can work as an introduction to basic thoughts and principles of the Christian faith. If you have been a follower for many years, this book can rekindle your thirst for knowledge and your desire to explore the greatness and goodness of the Father and Son.

The Our Daily Bread devotional brings the supernatural into your hands in simple language and poetic beauty. God is in both the simple and complex, in the majestic and the ordinary, in the powerful and the meek. God is in the deepest joy and the darkest hurts. This wonderful devotional shows God to the reader in all of those places, and more.

Next time you see the Our Daily Bread devotional do not judge it by the cover. Pick one up, open to any random day, and listen carefully as God speaks His love to your heart through a simple monthly publication.
