Is Usher hot? Well, according to the 2.8 million that bought the fourth album by Usher, Confession (Artista), he is. In the popular album, new musical heights are reached by Usher. Confession is dynamic and personal, a reflection of Usher’s musical growth over the last ten years.

Usher, who has received dozens of awards for his soulful, sexy, pop/r&b style, is especially popular among women. Several of the songs on his latest album are co-written by Usher. Confession, then, is more than a title – it’s also a musical statement about Usher himself.

Life + Usher Confession = Lyrics

In the song Confession II, Usher’s lyrics purportedly stem from his relationship with the (now disbanded) TLC singer Chili. He sings, “This by far is the hardest thing I think I’ve ever had to do/to tell you, the woman I love/That I’m having a baby /with a woman that I barely know.” His seemingly straight from the heart, gut-wrenching admission of guilt puts a very personal touch on the album.

While some critics praise and applaud Usher for his work in Confession, others are more lukewarm. Some reviewers place the motivation on songs like the huge hit “Yeah,” perfect to get a party movin’ and shakin,’ and the soulful crooning in the balledesque “Burn” more on catering to fans than to a personal Usher confession.

To those who think that Usher, Confession, My Way, or 8701 caters to fans, I have to say, even if it does, so what? What’s wrong with an artist as popular as Usher giving his listeners what they want to hear? In my opinion, he should be applauded for it. If it makes money, well, it’s because people like what they’re hearing. If Usher gives fans songs they like, and also is able to add more of a personal element by just being Usher, Confession has done its job.
