Weight Loss and Diabetes

by Patrick Austin

Weight loss and diabetes are intricately related.

If you’re overweight, you are at a much higher risk of developing diabetes. Nearly nine out of ten people who have recently been diagnosed with type II diabetes are overweight. Having a weight problem is now the leading risk factor for developing type II diabetes. The connection between obesity and diabetes has become so strong, doctors have a new word for it—“diabesity”.

That is why the connection between weight loss and diabetes is so vital to your health.

How will losing weight help me with diabetes? Well, with type II diabetes, obesity is a major factor in the development of this disease. In recent studies, a healthy diet has proven to control this type of diabetes.

A weight loss program and/or exercise routine is usually all that is needed to control and prevent type II diabetes.

Since weight loss and diabetes have such a strong connection, I will provide you with some simple health and exercise tips that should aid in the prevention of this disease:

Weight Loss and Diabetes Tip #1-Drink plenty of water

I can’t say enough about drinking water. H2O will help you in all facets of your health. Water is capable of curbing your appetite, which will help you eat less. If you eat less, you will lose weight and getting down to healthy weight will help prevent the onset of diabetes. If you don’t like drinking water, remember this—eight glasses of water a day will help keep diabetes away.

Weight Loss and Diabetes Tip #2-Add green leafy vegetables to your diet

Most Americans don’t get their necessary daily requirement of vegetables. That is truly sad since eating nutrient-dense, green leafy vegetables is so important for overall health and weight loss. They provide nourishment to all of the cells in your body and can give you increased energy and mental focus. You will need those for tip #3.

Weight Loss and Diabetes Tip #3-Begin an exercise routine

You don’t have to start some rigorous training routine. All you need to do is be active. Doing something is better than doing nothing. Start off slow by walking a mile a day. Then, over time, gradually increase the duration and rate in which you walk. Before you know it, you’ll be jogging. Then, in the blink of an eye, you’ll be running. Just remember, stay active. Having a good exercise routine will strengthen your body and help you fight against many diseases, including diabetes.
