Weight Loss Patch Scam

by Patrick Austin

You’ve probably seen or heard the advertisement--“slap on the patch and watch the pounds fall off!”

The weight loss industry has hit a new low by selling this garbage. Yes, all weight loss patches are garbage. They do absolutely nothing to help you lose weight. They don’t speed up your metabolism, don’t burn more calories, they do nothing.

But people bought into the dream. And how sweet a dream it is. Just put a patch on your stomach and lose weight. Man o man, that would be amazing. But if you use common sense, you can see it’s just a fantasy.

When these patches first came out, I have to admit I was intrigued by them. I guess I wanted to believe they worked(just like everyone else). Fortunately, I found this web site that brought me back to reality…

The Weight Loss Patch (from the FDA)

That’s right, the Federal Drug Administration investigated a weight loss patch company. Here are some enlightening excerpts from their investigation…

“The patches, sold as part of a kit with appetite-control claims, have not been shown to be safe and effective, nor do they have approval from the Food and Drug Administration. But they mimic legitimate prescription "transdermal" patches used to deliver drugs through the skin for such conditions as motion sickness.”

“In recent weeks, FDA has learned of claims to consumers that these patches were FDA-approved or met FDA standards. As a result, FDA issued a statement to consumers clarifying that the patches were not endorsed by the FDA. The agency said that, in fact, no nonprescription patch delivering drugs or other substances through the skin had been approved by FDA.”

“The makers of the nonprescription patches risked marketing them without studies to demonstrate their safety and effectiveness, and without FDA approval."

Here are some good web sites that provide information regarding other diet scams, including the weight loss patch gimic…
